Is my home a candidate?
Most homes are. What decides it is the condition of the existing line, how deep it runs, whether we can get clean access at both ends, and whether the run passes under a roadway. Older clay and cast-iron lines are usually excellent candidates — those are exactly the ones roots find.
We will tell you straight
Not every line qualifies — a camera inspection tells us in one visit. If trenchless isn't right for your line, we'll tell you straight and show you the options. We would rather lose the job than sell you the wrong one.
Before & after

A real Smedley job: a collapsing clay-tile line running under a paver patio, a swimming pool, a fence, a driveway, a row of trees and a retaining wall. One access in the basement floor, one at the edge of the property, a new HDPE line pulled between them. Compaction backfill, sod replaced, landscaping untouched.
Sewer questions, answered straight
Will my yard be dug up?
Not the way you are picturing. The Simple Sewer uses one hole in the basement and one hole in the yard — not a trench across the lawn. Your grass, driveway, and sidewalks stay intact. There is a dig at each end, and we put both back.
How long does a sewer replacement take?
Most Simple Sewer jobs are done in one to three days. Length of the run, depth of the line, basement access, and whether the line crosses under a street are what move that number. You get the timeline in writing before we start.
How much does sewer line replacement cost in Kansas City?
Most sewer replacements land between roughly $9,500 and $20,000. The variables are line length, how deep it sits, whether your basement is finished, and whether the run goes under a roadway. You can see your actual number right now at our price calculator — it takes about 90 seconds and never asks for your name, email, or phone number.
Is my home a candidate for trenchless?
Most are, but not all. Line condition, depth, access at both ends, and whether the run passes under a roadway all matter. A camera inspection tells us in one visit. If trenchless is not right for your line, we will tell you straight and show you the options rather than sell you something that will not work.
What is the difference between this and pipe lining?
Lining puts a new pipe inside your old one, which requires the old pipe to still be structurally sound. The Simple Sewer pulls a brand-new line into place, so it works even when the original pipe has collapsed, separated, or been crushed by roots. You end up with new pipe, not a patched one.
Do you handle the permits and the inspection?
Yes. Permits, locates, municipal inspection, and backfill are part of the job. You do not chase paperwork.
What warranty comes with it?
A 1-year parts and labor warranty on the work, plus the manufacturer warranty on the pipe itself. And our satisfaction guarantee stands behind all of it: if you are unsatisfied for any reason, we come back at no charge until you are happy.
Why do most plumbers still trench the whole yard?
Because trenching needs less specialised equipment and less training. Semi-trenchless work takes the gear and the experience to do it right — which is exactly why every plumber we send has a minimum of 10,000 hands-on hours.
